Wedding in Umbria at Castello di Rosciano

We started working on this wedding in Umbria at Castello di Rosciano more than a year ahead. Marco met Azania & Ethan, who were tasting menu options for their destination wedding in Italy. Ethan’s mum had found the castle online and suggested it to the two of them. It goes without saying that they chose well! The castle, located in Torgiano, in Italy’s Umbria region, dates back to the Middle Ages or Medieval period, in the 11th century. It has been reconstructed more than once and, most recently, has undergone a full renovation that makes it an ideal wedding venue (as you’ll see below). What we love about this Italian castle is the juxtaposition of grandeur and simplicity and the mix of medieval and modern.

So, back to the castle. Everyone hit it off instantly. Azania and Ethan loved Marco’s style of documentary photography & storytelling. Both of them are camera shy and wanted to make sure they worked with a photographer who wouldn’t create images that were too staged or contrived. They wanted to capture the day in a way that portrayed them as they are, amongst family and friends. Simonelli Studio was the perfect fit!

Getting ready at the Castello di Rosciano, the Bridal Suite

We started the day in the bridal suite at the Castello di Rosciano, taking photos of the bride getting ready, which are ideal for wedding parties. There is plenty of space for everyone, the decor is beautiful and modern, and the lighting is fantastic.

Guests arrive at castle in Umbria

Later in the day, all the guests had assembled for the big event. This group came from various areas in Great Britain and Scotland to join Azania and Ethan for their destination wedding in Italy. The ceremony was held outside on the lawn, overlooking Assisi and the rolling green hills of Umbria. The views from Castello di Rosciano are incredible!.

Antipasti and champagne by the pool

After they’ve said “I Do,” everyone heads to the courtyard for appetizers and cocktail hour. Appetizers and cocktail hour is another thing that Castello di Rosciano does really, really well. The in-house catering team is top-notch! Wedding guests often mistake the antipasti hour for dinner. There is a wide range of Italian delicacies: Umbrian crostini (patè), sausages, cheeses, quail eggs with freshly shaved truffle, lamb stew, oysters, and much more.

Portrait photography at wedding in Italy

Portrait photography at a wedding is a very important moment and each couple has different needs. Azania and Ethan didn’t want to leave their guests for too long and opted for something quick and fun. So we just sneaked at the back of the castle for a very relaxed session. This is what they are and these images represent them: smart, romantic, out of the spotlight.

Dinner time, italian style!

From antipasti, we move on to dinner. Azania and Ethan have chosen to be outdoors with the family seated at the head table,  placed underneath the stairs of the bridal suite. The sun has set, and now it’s time for toasts. We heard from the Maid of Honor, the Best Man, and the Father of the Bride.

Sweet, sweet dessert at Castello di Rosciano

There’s one last thing before the dance party; cake cutting on the lawn and desserts by the pool.

Dancing and a photo booth full of fun at this destination wedding reception

The final event of this wedding in Umbria at Castello di Rosciano has arrived, and it’s time for dancing and the photo booth. Did you know that actually we can set up a mobile portrait studio at your wedding? It is a lot roomier than a photo booth and your guests will love it! It is an excellent way to make sure you capture images of all the guests. The best spot for it is between the bar and the dance floor. Azania and Ethan chose to have the dance floor next to the “sala d’armi,” which allows guests to wander in and out for fresh air, to grab a drink, and to roam past the camera.
